Why are Newborn Portraits so special?

I love Newborn Portrait sessions. Tiny bundles of goodness that smell so sweet and look like little angels here on earth. I love the emotion between mother and child, the protectiveness of a new dad and seeing a couple embark on their journey as a family. It truly is a special honour and privilege to be a part of those moments and to capture this huge milestone for my clients.

I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely young family recently with their gorgeous new baby girl. She is amazingly beautiful and her parents were simply fantastic to work with - the best part is, she is a member of our Baby's First Year program so I will continue to watch her grow over the next 12 months! It is really special to be able to photograph these babies over the course of a year - their biggest growth year - as they grow from teensy weensy newborn to vibrant, giggling, happy little toddler in what seems like the shortest space of time. If it goes so quick for me, it must feel like the blink of any eye for the parents! They are only this tiny for a fleeting moment and that is what makes every Newborn Portrait so very, very special.

Please welcome 15 day old Andrea.

Granddad's Garage Limited Edition Portrait Sessions

As a child, I adored my Grandfather's garage. It was a place of hidey holes, funny smells and home to my Pop's old HR Ute. There were so many things in there that were different and interesting and Pop would tell my brothers and I stories (some of them a little embellished) of what those tools were for and where they came from. Some of the best memories of my childhood come from the hours I spent in that garage, polishing the ute with my wonderful grandfather. He loved that car and to this day,  I can still hear his Welsh sing-song voice "Best car in Waratah, Lici! Tah-tah!"

I love those memories and when I was planning to do a Theme Day for my clients with little boys, I was inspired to do something that captured the feel of an old time garage, complete with a well loved car, dusty old crates and fantastic old tins filled with all sorts of ...well, interesting stuff ! So, we now have our Granddad's Garage Limited Edition Portrait Sessions!

Part of our Heirloom Collection, our Granddad's Garage Limited Edition Portrait Day is sure to be a hit with your little boys!

We have opened up the garage, pulled the cover off Granddad's Roadster and blown the dust from the old grease and oil tins. Just like the garage you remember from when you were a child, there are oil stains on the floor and the smell of yesteryear in the air...add to that our classic bib and brace overalls, twill driving cap and corduroy pants with suspenders - all you need is your little man to make this charming portrait session complete. The photographs are truly unique and I am sure they will give you and your little boy timeless memories for many years to come. A sample album can be viewed on my Facebook Page

The date for our Granddad's Garage sessions is the 30th of June 2012, our Limited Edition pricing of $79 includes a 6x8" print portrait - Limited Edition packages will also be available.

We only have space for 12 sessions on the day and they are certain to fill quickly - in fact we only have 6 spaces left! Sessions times are pre-booked - if you would like to book your session, please call on 0419 411588 or email - to reserve your space.

Just like our Enchanted Garden Fairy Portrait sessions, Granddad's Garage has been hugely popular and our first day is a sell out already! If you would like to bring your little man along for one of our future Granddad's Garage Portrait days, we have a pre-register list if you would like to add your name. Simply send us an email and we will add you for next time. Our you might like to sign up for our Mailing List to receive notification for our upcoming Theme Days - there is always something special going on and we would love to have you join us for a fun day and gorgeous children's portraits!

Cheers
Alicia :)

So I guess my resolution to be a bit more regular with my blog posts has been well and truly broken! The past 3-4 months have been amazing with so much fantastic stuff going on.

I have just returned from a trip to Canada where I attended a 3 day photography seminar with some of the finest photographers in North America - more of that shortly. This was my first big trip alone and I was terrified and excited all at once - this was a huge adventure for me! Getting patted down in Vancouver Airport was an absolute highlight - all I could do was laugh - I just kept setting things off, even though I was almost butt naked!Fortunately the customs officer found it as funny as I did and I was soon on my way - note to self, do not fly with metal sparkly bits in your scarf, rogue bits of change in the furthest part of every pocket of your jeans, metal bracelets and necklace, metal buckles on your shoes and a metal decorative hairclip - or you will find yourself in a state of near undress!

This trip really pushed me out of my comfort zone. One the one hand I so wanted to attend this particular seminar but the downside of that was that I had to make that huge step to travel to the other side of the world...alone. I am so glad that I did this, on a purely photography level I learnt so very much in such a short time and know I will be putting that knowledge to use over the coming days, weeks, months - YEARS! On a personal level, pushing my boundaries to the limit has made me discover a whole new side of me that I wasn't sure existed...I think I have been bit by the travel bug!

I made it to Toronto and although I had been sleepless for almost 35 hours, I managed to find my shuttle bus and make my way to the hotel where some sleep was on the agenda. Once I caught up I headed into Toronto for a look at the city and was amazed at the size of it - to say it wasn't quite what I was expecting is probably a little understatement! The wonderful old buildings, the waterfront area, CN Tower and of course the shopping centres! Yonge Square was a great place to kick back in the sun, enjoy some people watching and soak up the ambience. I only had one day to see the city but it sure did make an impact on me!

The seminar was amazing! Top shelf photographers from many different genres, Newborn, Boudoir, Family and Fashion Photography. We had seminars from 9am in the morning through til 9 at night and then afterwards we would retire to the lounge and talk with other attendee's and presenters until the early hours of the morning. The things I learned in those three short days both in the seminars and later when we were all catching up have inspired me beyond belief. I met the most amazing people and am proud to say I now have fantastic friends in both Canada and the US!

One of the highlights was my visit to Niagara Falls on my last night in Canada. To stand there and see the power and beauty of one of the world's most beautiful falls was an incredible experience! I could not quite believe that I was there. This trip showed me just how naive I was - a little like Crocodile Dundee when he went to New York lol! When we were making our way there, I commented that Niagara must be out in the middle of nowhere. My friend Michelle (who took me there) laughed and said you are not going to believe it, Niagara is like the Canadian answer to Vegas...and it was! Casino's, hotels a huge tourist strip - fantastic and amazing in itself. Michelle asked me why I thought it was in the middle of nowhere and I explained that is where we stick our incredible natural wonders - (Uluru, Great Barrier Reef, The Kimberley etc ) Out in the middle of nowhere! And here was this amazing torrent of water just an hour and a half from the middle of busy Toronto - unbelievable! Honestly it was just breathtaking, and at night with the coloured lights projected onto the falls - WOW!

To all my new friends in Canada and US, thank you for making me feel so welcome! I had the best time and when the time came to say goodbye, I didn't want to leave I had enjoyed myself so much. All of the presenters and attendee's were fellow photographers and were so open and shared their photography experiences and techniques so freely and honestly, I was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone I met. A huge thank you to all of you, I loved every second and cannot wait to come back and see you all again.

Cheers Alicia.

What makes a great family portrait?

Having fun is right at the top of the list!

Early on Christmas Eve I met up with a fantastic family for a family portrait session in the park - it was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. Little Amber has a huge personality and she made sure that there was a enough fun for everyone!

She even popped up when I wasn't expecting her!

She stole the show with her unbelievable energy and I just adore her attitude in the image below!

Thank you to the whole family, all the girls for being absolutely gorgeous, Dad for being very handsome and so patient and little Amber for adding that little extra spark! It was a great morning out!

Oooohhh and look at that, I have managed to do two blog posts in two weeks! If only you could see the happy dance I am doing!

'Til next week,

Bye bye 2011 - hello 2012!

Well, here we are in 2012 and didn't last year just fly by so quickly? As is the custom, I have made some New Year Resolutions and one of them is to update my blog at least once a week - the poor thing has become so neglected!

There has been so much happening over the past few months, we have had the honour of photographing some beautiful, newborns and babies, gorgeous maternity portraits, fun filled kids sessions and of course our super popular Santa's Workshop.

This year our Santa's Workshop sessions ran over 4 days and we had 137 super energetic kids of all ages come to visit. Our oldest was 14 and our littlest was just one month old...it was incredibly good fun and fantastic to see some of our kids that come along every year (they just grow so much!!) as well as some new faces come along to enjoy Santa's Workshop. My singing skills are improving every year (LOL) and I just love it when mum's will sing and dance with me! Some of our mum's should be on the stage they are so good!

Santa was thrilled that all the kids he saw were on his good list - even after checking it twice - and was getting busy to deliver on all the things the kids asked for this Christmas...not sure how the little boy that wanted an aeroplane - "No, Santa, a REAL one!!!" got on though! Santa also received a collection of dummies that some of our brave kids gave him to give to the baby reindeer...hopefully the lolly filled gift bags filled the void for a little while.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a fantastic New Year with good health, happiness and abundance for 2012. And look at that, so far this year I have managed to write a blog post once a week! Here's our Santa's Workshop Portrait Session video for 2011 - enjoy!

Enchanted Garden in Penrith - Our Fairy Portrait Sessions!

It was the BEST fun! The girls were simply beautiful, their mum's were fantastic and we all had a great time. Our Enchanted Garden was so popular that we have scheduled another date for February - and I can't wait to do it again!

Some Interesting Fairy Facts.

The most popular dress was the lavender and white.
The biggest age group was 5 year olds.
The most popular pose was the Glowing Ball.
Our fairies came from all over Sydney, from Randwick to Warragamba, Kurrajong Heights to just 2 streets away!
Our pond frogs now have names, they are Roger, Rita and Robert - named by one of our littlest fairies.

Thank you to all our gorgeous fairies, you were all so very, very special.

Here's a little video of our very first Enchanted Garden Fairy Portrait Sessions!

Thank you all for coming, I can't wait for the next one. Our Enchanted Garden will be held again in February/March of 2012, date to be confirmed. If you would like to bring your fairy along for our next Enchanted Garden, you can email me to put your name down on our Pre-Register list - we only have a couple of spaces left!
